Artist's Comments

A self portrait created entirely out of font. No manipulations to characters (i.e. un-scaled stretching or cropping). Glyphs and punctuation used. Done in Illustrator CS2.

It's a graceful photo so I chose to use script fonts for the swoops and fine lines.

Fonts Used:

:bulletred:The King & Queen

Yay! my very own DD! My first on this account! I want to thank all of you who have stopped by to take a closer look and have shown your support with kind words and your favorites. I very genuinely appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Big thanks especially to ^Sander-Seto & ^PurpelBlur as they were instrumental in this works sudden exposure.

Yeah that's just about one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. I love that I can still see characters even though a very clean and defined portrait sits on top of them.

It's quite impressive how accurate and life-like this is, given that it's entirely made from script. It really has a strong sense of flow and movement.

Thank you! I worked hard to make sure that it didn't clump and get haulting. I was terrified i wouldn't be able to make a portrait out of font because i'm too much of a realist and a perfectionist and it was more of an abstract concept. But i put my own realist twist on it and i have to say it turned out pretty cool.

well thank you. It bent my head for a while but once i got started it just kinda rolled along. Kind of an abstract concept.

Indeed. It is a realist portrait executed in a very abstract manner, which I very much like. I've always liked the concept of abstracted art, but usually with something like this the proportions would be all skewed and you'd have two eyes on the left side of your face and a mouth on your forehead, and that just doesn't appeal to me. You managed to retain the beauty of the source image whilst abstracting it, and that's no small feat.

Say, any progress on your other portrait idea?
